The DBS has made it clear that eligible self-employed professionals must apply through an Umbrella Body. An Umbrella Body is registered with DBS to submit applications. It helps to ensures checks are processed in line with eligibility law and verifies identity correctly. This helps to reduce the risk of rejected or incorrect applications.

Step-by-step: how to apply under the new rules
Confirm eligibility.
Check whether your role qualifies for a Basic, Enhanced, or Enhanced with Barred List(s) DBS check.
Apply via an Umbrella Body like My Guitar Lessons.
If eligible for enhanced-level checks, you must apply through a registered Umbrella Body such as My Guitar Lessons.
Completing the identity verification
1. Identity checks are carried out in line with DBS- ID verification requirements.
2. DBS processing and certificate issue
3. Once processed, your My Guitar Lessons DBS certificate is sent directly to you by post.

The DBS Update Service helps keep your certificate current and reusable.
