Steve Vai talks about his mindset for playing guitar

Guitarist Steve Vai flexible is 30 years old, release originally in 1984. Vai said he listened to it recently and it was like a snapshot of life back then. Since then the technology has advanced but back then when he lived in Hollywood he found it complicated then moved to a farm to a relaxed atmosphere to help with his musicianship.

Bill Westcote was his music theory teacher helped Vai with his reading, writing and composing however the thought of ever being famous made him anxious back then, so had no aspirations to be a star. Ever since he was a kid he created a visual image, playing a guitar character in front of his friend, being elegant, effortless playing and he continues ‘You become what you think about’.

Vai says ‘Feeling is everything – and the mind is so powerful, as we feel – we vibrate at different frequencies, like sound and colour. We are a vibration, and the way we feel changes those vibrations. Positive thinking is so important’, he says. However says ‘Don’t give yourself lip-service as the talent must be in place, however positive thinking and happy thoughts are so important to become a top level musician’.
